Since I started climbing in 2023, my friends and I have visited quite a few gyms — not only in Belgium, but also in the United Kingdom and France. The style of the boulders often varies greatly from gym to gym: sometimes the style matches your strengths, sometimes your weaknesses. This has led to clear differences of opinion about the quality of certain gyms. Over the years, however, we have tried to create an overview of what we consider the best gyms in Belgium, using a tier list.
To create this tier list, we devised a kind of algorithm to better rank the gyms. For example, we take into account the quality of the boulder routes, which is of course one of the most important aspects and heavily influences the final result. Additionally, we consider how often new boulder problems are set, the busyness of the gym, parking availability, and facilities (showers, lockers)…
Each time we visit a new gym, we individually give it a score based on these parameters. We then calculate the average of these scores, and this result ultimately forms our tier list.
